Preparing Documents for Scheduling an Examination Appointment

To ensure a smooth and efficient approval process, please prepare all required documents in advance before scheduling an appointment with an authorized specialist. Early preparation of the documents will help shorten processing times and allow for a more organized and efficient procedure during the "Step 2" examination process.

How do I begin the application for a walking aid (prosthetic, brace, or shoes)?

You must visit a Regional Health Bureau (Lishkat Briut) to establish eligibility and receive an "Eligibility Card". Once your eligibility is confirmed, a copy is forwarded to the Lewis Institute to initiate the provision process.

Who determines exactly which device I need?

An Authorized Signatory (Morishe Hatima)—a physician or physical therapist appointed by the Lewis Institute—performs a clinical assessment and issues the formal "work order".

Where can I have my device made?

You may choose any authorized workshop from the list provided by the Lewis Institute to obtain a quote and start production.

Can I receive a device if I am hospitalized?

Generally, for those in chronic care or nursing institutions, the institution is responsible for providing standard aids, but custom walking aids may still follow the Ministry's procedure.
